On January 27, 2020, Attorney Lester Rosen, the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), was featured in a podcast about “How and When to Use a Background Check when Hiring” that was hosted by David Russell, the founder of Manage 2 Win, a partner of ESR.

Rosen is a frequent presenter nationwide on the background check process and the author of “The Safe Hiring Manual – The Complete Guide to Employment Screening Background Checks for Employers, Recruiters, and Jobseekers” (3rd Edition), the first comprehensive book on employment screening.

In the nearly hour-long podcast, Rosen and Russell discussed the importance of using a background check when hiring, when to use a background check, and why it is important to tell job candidates about the background check and to ask them if anything will show up on their criminal record.

Rosen also explained what kinds of entries on a background check would disqualify someone for a job, the legal difficulties in having marijuana products in the workplace, how easy it is to falsify education background since “you just can’t assume that someone has a degree,” and more.

“The cost of a bad hire is astronomical… It’s a huge legal and financial nightmare,” Rosen pointed out in the podcast, which is part of a series of podcast episodes provided by Manage 2 Win. The podcast episode featuring Attorney Lester Rosen is available on the Manage 2 Win website, iTunes, and YouTube.

Rosen was chairperson of the steering committee that founded the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) – a non-profit organization representing the screening industry formerly known as the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) – and served as first co-chair.

In 2019, the PBSA presented Rosen with the Mike Sankey Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor awarded by the PBSA. The award recognizes an individual’s contributions that serve to advance excellence in the screening profession and is named after the late Michael Sankey, who was the award’s first recipient.

Founded by Rosen in 1997, Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) is a leading global background check provider that is accredited by the PBSA, undergoes annual SOC 2 audits, and was named a top pre-employment screening service by HRO Today Magazine. To learn more, visit www.esrcheck.com.
