On Les Rosen's recent interview of Steven Brownstein, Episode 49 - Behind the Screens, Les says Steve Brownstein was the first to do several pioneering things in the background screening industry:
Originated County Search Networks: Brownstein is credited with originating the idea of county search networks during a time when county searches were not widely available.
Initiated International Checks: He was the gentleman who initiated the process of putting together international resources for background checks.
Created the First Industry Publication: He originated the idea for the first industry publication, which you might recall as The Background Investigator.
Put Together the First Conferences: He put together, on his own dime, the first industry conferences, first in Long Beach and then in Florida, which ultimately led to the formation of NPBS (the predecessor to PBSA).
In addition, Les Rosen notes that Brownstein really got him started in a public role in the industry by inviting him to be the keynote speaker at many of his conferences.
