Twitter, Facebook and other social media resources play an increasingly larger role in helping locate missing persons through dedicated websites and Facebook pages and tips received from viewers of those sites and from monitoring missing persons’ social media accounts for recent activity.
The law enforcement community recognizes the value of these public-based social media efforts, although there is concern about the amount of false information generated.
