Kansas launches new court records search system with enhanced features
The Kansas judicial branch announced the launch of the new CaseSearch system this week. The system is a new online tool that replaces the current Kansas District Court Public Access Portal.
Judicial leaders noted that the upgraded system offers more search options, detailed information and improved functionality based on user feedback.
As of Thursday, Nov. 27, court officials said both systems are active, but the old portal will ultimately shut down. After that, only CaseSearch will be available for district court records.
Court leaders indicated that CaseSearch was built in-house by the case management team and offers several enhancements:
More search types to find specific cases
Advanced filters to search within case events
Expanded financial details for court cases
Streamlined interface that pulls data more effectively
“Since completing the project to move all district courts to a centralized case management system, we’ve been alert for ways to harness greater benefit from this new technology,” said Amy Raymond, chief of district court operations and research.
Rather than purchasing existing software, Raymond noted that the branch developed CseSearch to address specific user needs.
For users who need expanded access to case information, court leaders said the system uses ID.me for identity verification.
Public district court records include both case data and case documents. Records not available through CaseSearch can still be accessed at courthouse terminals.
Sealed cases and sealed records remain confidential and will not be available through CaseSearch or courthouse terminals.
Judicial leaders noted that the new system aims to help attorneys, journalists, researchers and members of the public find court information more efficiently.
