Indonesia's SKCK Criminal Checks (National Police Record)

December 06, 2025 posted by Steve Brownstein

SKCK Criminal Checks (National Police Record

This is the most common and standardized criminal check in Indonesia, but it has a specific and limited scope.

  • Source: Issued by the Indonesian National Police (Polri), specifically the Intelligence Unit (Intelkam).

  • Scope: It is a Police Clearance Certificate (Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian or SKCK) that certifies the presence or absence of a criminal record (Catatan Kepolisian).

  • What it Covers: It reflects information from the police's centralized database regarding serious crimes and criminal investigations involving the applicant.

  • Key Limitation: The SKCK generally confirms the individual is not currently involved in any criminal investigation or proceedings within that specific police district (though it is often verified at the national level). It is a snapshot and may not include all historical, local court final dispositions.

  • Client Value: This is the official, government-issued document required by many employers and for immigration purposes, confirming the candidate has a clean slate from the Police perspective.

  • A Note on FCRA and Consent (Indonesia):

    • Indonesia has its own Personal Data Protection (PDP) Act. While the US FCRA does not apply internationally, the Indonesian PDP Law mandates explicit written consent from the candidate before conducting any of these background checks.

    • The SKCK is applied for voluntarily by the applicant, not the employer, so the process is already designed around the candidate's consent and involvement.
