How Come the Netherlands Court is called Rechtbank?

August 23, 2020 posted by Steve Brownstein

A pre-employment screen asked about why is the court called the Rechtbank because when they used Google Translator the word "Rechtbank" translated to "court?'

Q: We would like to ask the exact court name. Source search results only show
"Rechtbank" which is translated as "Court".

In the Netherlands its English version is District Court or at times the Court of First Instance.

The Netherlands is divided into Districts (arrondissementen) and each have its own court (Rechtbank)..

In each Rechtbank there are sectors (Sectoren)

One of those secrors is called Strafecht (criminal)

So you can say in English "I am going to the criminal court at the Rechtbank."
I never heard the locals say I am going to the District Court.
