Fairfield Court clerks office to make more information available online

Those looking up case information on the Fairfield County Clerk of Courts website can view the docket but not a lot of specifics about a case, including court decisions or notices without having to make a public records request.
 
That will change starting Monday, however. Thanks to a $19,000 technology grant from the Ohio Supreme Court, more information will be available free on the site at fairfieldcountyclerk.com for all general division court records filed on or after Jan. 1, 2018.
 
The common pleas court, the clerk of courts and the county internet technology department applied for the grant in December.
 
"The public will be able to know what happens in court on a daily basis," court administrator Jillian Boone said in a statement. "The nature of pending charges or claims, why the judges ruled why they did, when the next hearing date is, all without having to make a phone call or record request."
 
Clerk of Courts Branden Meyer said the change "will increase transparency and expand the public access and customer service provided by the clerk's office."
 
To maintain privacy where warranted, he said his office will encourage document filers to not include things like Social Security numbers and other personal identifiers. Meyer also said the documents not subject to court guidelines or the state's public records
