Are We Quasi- Law Enforcement?

Texas Attorney General investigators arrested a previously convicted sex offender Jeremy Michael Evers of Wisconsin.

The defendant was arrested for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

"The defendant attempted to sign-up with an online dating service, lied about his 2001 sexual assault conviction and was caught when the Web site conducted a background check," Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said. "Thanks to the background check, our Fugitive Unit was contacted and discovered that this registered sex offender failed to notify Wisconsin authorities before moving to Texas."

Investigators made the arrest after receiving notice from an online dating service that Evers had denied having a felony conviction while attempting to activate a profile through the service's Web site. The service conducts a background check in an effort to prevent sex offenders or felons from using its Web site.
