U.S. Companies Out Of CPIC Approval

The latest ruling by the RCMP tends to lean against the dissemination of CPIC criminal history information across the Canadian border.

This is due mainly to the directive that no CPIC information may be stored outside of Canada except those records received from the applicants themselves.

This effectively negates the pre-employment process currently used by most background screening companies that store and disseminate information from their own computer databases.

One other sticking point is the requirement to be within 8 hours (distance) from the police source that is used for the record retrieval.

This edict not only affects US companies, but also pertains to Canadian investigators that have been supplying US companies.

The Background Investigator and Straightline International have been in close contact with the proper authorities in Canada and are monitoring this situation closely.

The Background Investigator will keep you informed as the dialogue continues between the local police providers and the RCMP National Services.
