Straightline International Interacts With Governmental AgenciesA recent news article in the Daily Mail (dated June 2nd) reported that tens of thousands of foreigners are working in British care homes without full criminal record checks. That is contrary to rules applying to British citizens seeking for the same positions. British citizens must be checked for previous convictions. British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has been told that police chiefs are currently unable to access foreign records. This means foreign workers who have committed a crime in their home country are not held to same standards when it comes to employment in the caretaking field. Not that the British authorities aren't trying to correct this. They have tried many means of obtaining disclosures from foreign sources; mainly failing because of international protocol causing massive paperwork backlogs and long retrieval times. They (the British authorities) have no other resources at this time.
