Las Vegas Latin Chamber endorses gun background check measure

July 15, 2016 posted by Steve Brownstein

Las Vegas' Latin Chamber of Commerce has become the first major Nevada business group to endorse a gun background check ballot measure.

The group announced its support at a news conference on Friday. Voters will decide in November whether to approve Question 1, which would require criminal background checks on more gun sales and transfers.

Chamber president Peter Guzman said he's proud his group is the first business organization to get behind the measure, which also has endorsements from the Nevada teacher's union, the Clark County district attorney and others.

Guzman said expanding background checks will help attract businesses that consider crime rate when deciding whether to relocate and could help prevent mass shootings that drive away tourism.

He also said the Hispanic community is hard-hit by gun violence.
